Safety footwear

Safety or work shoes are Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) designed and manufactured to protect the worker’s feet from various risks: mechanical (slipping, impact, compression, puncture, cutting etc.), chemical (contact with hydrocarbons, mineral oils etc.), physical (moisture, water, heat, cold etc.) and electrical (antistatic properties, conductive properties etc.).

Work shoes must primarily be safe and therefore, made in accordance with the essential requirements prescribed by Regulation (EU) 2016/425, in terms of ergonomics, harmlessness, comfort, effectiveness and the safety requirements set forth in EN ISO 20345 for safety shoes, and in EN ISO 20347 for professional footwear without protective toecaps.

Besides being safe, work shoes must be comfortable so as to avoid foot pain and bad posture that may cause muscle and joint fatigue; they must also be lightweight, sporty, robust, waterproof, designed for both summer and winter, according to each season's needs and to the type of risk that the person wearing them is exposed to.
